AC Generator

It is an electrical device which produces alternating current energy from mechanical energy.
Principle
It is based on the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction.
Construction
It consist of following essential parts

Armature

It consist of large no of turns of insulated copper wire wound over a laminated soft iron core.
Field magnet
It is a strong electromagnetic in which armature coil is rotated

Slip rings

It is a two hollow metallic ring from which two ends of armature coil are connected.

Brushes

It is a two flexible metal plate connected with the slip rings.

Theory And Working

As the armature coil is rotated in the magnetic field Then angle between the magnetic field and normal to the coil charges.Therefore magnetic flux linked with the coil changes and as a result an emf is induced in the coil.
